Ask any student what is wrong with education today and they will tell you the truth: it’s not that schools are no longer what they used to be, it’s that they are precisely what they used to be.
That is why Des Moines Public Schools are working to best prepare our graduates for their future, so they posses the knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful at the next stage of their lives in the 21st century. As Des Moines Public Schools begins a second century of service, we are developing a new set of ends, or objectives, for our graduates.
Over the course of several weeks, we will be seeking input from teachers, parents, students and the community about the direction and focus of these new ends, and to make sure they align with the Community Conversation process the school district conducted earlier in 2007. In mid-November, community forums were held in each of the district's three regions. And, in the near future, we will be holding focus groups with high school students and conducting surveys with teachers and community members.
Check back from time to time for the most recent developments and information about this process.
